The Ephemeral & 1984

Posted on May 3rd, 2007 by Wiseman : Wiseman Wiseman
I've been listening to Orwell's 1984 again. It occured to me that the nature of reality is truly subjective. The dystopian future, the maligned present, the magnificent past - all of these things are untrue, and true. It's as if the logic of logic simply doesn't apply.

How far can you see? Literally. On a good day, on the top of a hill... can you see 10 miles? can you see 50 miles? Sight is one dimension of your awareness. How far can you hear? How well can you smell? All of these senses are limited. Even so, with limited senses we believe that we KNOW what's going on in the world. YOUR MIND FILLS IN THE GAPS between what you see and what you know. And, as time passes, the gaps get bigger, and the reliance on the mind gets stronger, and soon you are only dimly aware of the things you can see, or smell, or hear, or touch... This dim awareness acts only as stimulation to the engine of the mind which now has the only firm grasp of reality, and only seeks imput to confirm it's already dominant value centric worldview... And before long, you are ready to kill in the name of it. You are ready to die in the name of it.

And it does not exist. It is at best a sand castle at low tide.
